What should I know about any risks of the investments you recommend to me?

Shares, as with all other asset classes can decline in value instead of appreciating. The measure of this change in value is often referred to as volatility. The more the value varies over time, the more volatile the asset value, and therefore the greater risk associated with the investment. On the other hand, the less volatile an asset, the less likelihood for any significant capital gain or loss from investing in that asset.

Some of the risks in investing in shares are market risks, global risk, sector risk and specific asset risk.

Market Risk- the risk of a gain or loss by reason of movements in the share market. This may be caused by a range of factors, including economic, taxation and legislative factors.

Global Risk- the vulnerability of an investment to international events or international market factors. For example, exchange rate fluctuations, changes in bond markets or changes in international stock markets.

Sector Risk- risk associated with the industry’s specific products or services. For example, changes in the level of demand for a product or service, technology changes or a change in commodity prices.

Specific asset risk- risk associated with the specific investment. For example, the quality of the company’s directors, competition or liquidity of the investment.

It should be noted that Absolute Investor deals in small capitalisation, high risk securities- these carry a higher volatility than the general stock market and as such have a higher potential for capital gain or loss.

Will you give me advice which is suitable to my investment needs and financial circumstances?

Absolute Investor provides general share market advice only. As our subscription service does not take in to account your individual financial circumstances, you should consider talking to a financial adviser before making an investment decision.
